Simple Earrings Tutorial/ Tutorial Aretes Sencillos

- Materials/ Materiales

- Two beads / Dos cuentas o piedras
- Two eyepins 2 inches / Dos alfileres con loop 2"
- Two headpins 1 inch / Dos alfileres con cabeza 1"
- Roundnose pliers / Pinzas con punta redonda

In the picture you can see the cutting pliers but there I didn’t use it.
En la foto puse las pinzas para cortar pero no son necesarias.

- Instructions / Instrucciones:

- Insert the bead in the headpin.
- Inserte la cuenta o piedra en el alfiler con cabeza.

- With the pliers turn the head pin in a 90° angle.
- Con la pinza gire al alfiler en un ángulo de 90°.

- Place the pliers in the tip of the eyepin and turn your wrist until you form a loop. It can take two turns.
- Coloque la pinza en la punta del alfiler y gire su muñeca o mano hasta formar un “loop”, por lo general toma dos giros.

- To make the earring part you will need something with a tubular shape like a pen, which is what I use, and the eyepin.
- Para formar el arete necesitarán algún instrumento de forma tubular, como un bolígrafo que fue lo que yo utilice y el alfiler con el “loop”.

- Hold the eyepin against the pen and with the other hand turn the wire until you have the earring shape.
- Sostén bien el alfiler contra el bolígrafo y con la otra mano moldea el alambre hasta que tenga la forma deseada.

- Now we have to attach the two parts.
- Ahora hay que unir las dos partes.

- Open the loop of the earring side and insert the bead loop part. Close the loop.
- Abra un poco el lado del arete e introduzca el loop de la cuenta o piedra. Cierre el loop.

- You are done! A new pair of earrings.
- Listo! Un Nuevo par de aretes.

Tell us something about yourself and your work?/ Cuentanos algo acerca de ti y de tu trabajo ?

Hi! My name is Enid and I am from Puerto Rico, a beautiful Island in the Caribbean. I am married and a mother of three wonderful girls. I can say that I was born an artist. Since I have memories art and crafts are been part of my life. My moms teaches me about sewing and at school my interest in art, special in drawing and painting, start to grow. Later in life I learn about making jewelry.
¡Hola! Mi nombre es Enid y soy de Puerto Rico, una bella Isla en el Caribe. Soy casada y madre de tres hermosas niñas. Podría decirse que soy artista de nacimiento, desde que tengo memoria el arte y las manualidades siempre han estado presentes en mi vida. Mi incursión en las manualidades comenzó desde pequeña cosiendo con mi mamá. Luego en la escuela me atrajo el arte, sobre todo la pintura y el dibujo y más adelante aprendí sobre bisutería.

Since when are you working with beads, wire, recycle materials and why?/ Desde cuando estas trabajando con cuencas, alambre, material recyclable y porqué ?

After having my third child I was ready to start something related with the craft world. At that time I was living at Mexico so jewelry was all around me. Because I didn’t know a lot about that country in a short trip to Puerto Rico I took some jewelry classes. Back at Mexico I practice and buy a lot of my supplies.
Luego de tener a mí tercera hija me surgió el interés de dedicarme a alguna manualidad. Para ese tiempo vivía en México y me intereso mucho la bisutería. Como no conocía mucho de este país en un viaje a Puerto Rico tomé unas clases de ensamblaje de joyería y ya en México practiqué y compré la mayoría de mis materiales.

Where did you get the idea about the name of your online store?/ De donde salió el nombre de tu tienda online ?

I have a clear idea about what I want to reflect with my shop name and that was that I make jewelry. I choose the world “prendas” that in Puerto Rico is related to jewelry, but also to clothes. I want something unique too so I write the world different; “PreN’Das” that I can describe like “Pre” is before something is done, the “N” as a referent to the world “and”, and finally “Das” that is the Spanish world for “to give”.
Yo tenía una idea clara de lo que quería que el nombre de mi tienda reflejara y era que no hubiese duda de que lo que yo hacía era joyería. Escogí la palabra “prendas”, que en Puerto Rico hace referencia a joyería, aunque también hace referencia a piezas de ropa. Claro la palabra tenía que lucir única así que se me ocurrió escribirlo “Pre N’ Das” que lo describo como “Pre” antes de fabricada, “N” como el adjetivo “and” que significa “y” es español y por último “Das” que es ofrecerlo a alguien.

If you work at home how do you manage to get organized and not fall into chaos?/ Si trabajas en casa, como logras mantener el orden y no transformar la casa en un caos?

I work at home with the jewelry. When I first started I consider PreN’Das has a hobby, but now I am working harder to make this shop a little part time job. In my free time which is in the mornings, I try to work with the shop making more pieces and promoting, but also try to have all meals ready. When my daughters start to go out from school is a little bit complicate but I try to balance my working life with the work at home.
Trabajo con la joyería en mi casa. Aunque primero consideraba a PreN’Das como un pasatiempo, ya estoy trabajando más intensamente para que se parezca más a un trabajo a tiempo parcial, lo que se traduce literalmente a caos. Trato de dividir mi tiempo libre, que generalmente es en las mañanas entre tener las comidas listas y dedicarlo a la joyería y a promocionar. Ya que las niñas comienzan a salir de la escuela es un poco más complicado. A mí se me hace un poco adictivo estar pendiente a la joyería pero siempre busco el balance en mi hogar.

What kind of movies do you like to watch?/ Que tipo de peliculas te gusta ver?

I love fiction and actions movies. I also watch comedy and some TV series.
A mí me encantan las películas de ciencia ficción y acción. También veo películas de comedia y algunas series de televisión.

What kind of colors are your favorites and why?/ Cuales son tus colores favoritos y porque?

I love intense and warm colors. My favorites are reds and browns, but also like the neutral colors.
Me encantan los colores intensos y cálidos. Mis favoritos son los rojos y marrones, aunque también me gustan los colores neutrales.

Do you have some planes, ideas for the remaining of 2011?/ Planes, ideas, proyectos para lo que queda del 2011?

I have a some plans for the shop like integrate more accessories and to work in a new jewelry collection.
Tengo mucho planes, entre ellos puedo compartir el integrar mas accesorios en la tienda y hacer una nueva colección de joyería.

I got my cat about 11 years ago in Turkey. I was never a cat person, I always had dogs and always thought cats were beautiful but that was it. A British friend of mine had adopted a kitten found on the street (the mother was dead) and I went to visit her and the little kitten waited until I put my coffee with milk down and put his little paw in it...it wasn't love at 1st sight!
Mi gato y yo tenemos 11 años juntos. Es un gato turco, que fue rescatado de las calles por una amiga britanica mientras las dos viviamos en Turquia. A mi me gustaron siempre los perros y no era amante de los gatos. Cuando fui a visitar a mi amiga este gatito impertinente salto en la mesa y metio su patita en mi taza de cafe con leche! No me causo muy buena impresion!

My friend had to go back to her country and begged me give the kitten a home. I agreed and ended up the owner of Pinky...who was supposed to be female, until 'she' started marking 'her' territory and the vet informed me 'she' was a 'he' and our cat became "Mr. Pinky." Cuando mi amiga regreso a su pais me pidio que me quedara con el gato. No estaba muy convencida, pero tampoco queria que lo echaran a la calle! Me converti en la dueña de Pinky, el cual pensabamos era hembra,,,hasta que un dia comenzo a marcar su territorio por todo nuestro apartamento! El veterinario me dijo que era varon y le cambiamos el nombre a "Mr" Pinky.

When it was time to leave Turkey I decided to bring Mr. Pinky with me. It wasn't an easy trip and he got sick as soon as we arrived (stress, the vet said) but he has had a great life so far and has been the most spoiled car ever until my son was born 2 1/2 years ago. Now Mr. Pinky has to run for his life (well, for the safety of his tail) at least once a day, but I think he's still happy to be with us!'
Cuando nos fuimos de Turquia, decidí traerme a Pinky. No fue un viaje facil y el pobre gato se enfermo tan pronto llegamos ('stress' segun el vet). Pero ha tenido una gran vida y ha sido el gato mas consentido del mundo hasta hace 2 1/2 años, cuando nació mi hijo. Ahora Mr. Pinky tiene que escapar y cuidar su cola, pero creo que todavia esta contento de estar con nosotros!
