In ancient times, rubies were known as the king of gems. Legend has it that warriors would put rubies under their skin to bring valor and courage during battles. Rubies have long represented feelings of devotion and romance, which makes them one of the top choices for engagement rings. It is also traditionally given to couples celebrating their 40th anniversary.

En tiempos antiguos, los rubíes eran conocidos como los reyes de las gemas. Dice la leyenda que los guerreros se incrustaban la piel con rubíes para atraer el valor y el coraje durante las batallas.

Rubies have a place within British royalty, being one of the preferred gems for coronations. They are the scarcest of all gems, which is why they command high prices. They are extremely hard stones (second only to diamonds) and a mined primarily in Burma. The name Ruby comes from the Latin word 'ruber'which means red. Their colour can range from translucent to opaque. The most expensive colour is the pigeon blood-red. The next measure of quality is, like with diamonds, a ruby's clarity. The cut and carat also drive the price.

Los rubíes tienen un lugar dentro de la realeza Británica, siendo una de las gemas preferidas a la hora de las coroncaciones. Son la gema más escasa, por lo que alcanzan precios muy altos.
