This is a handmade picture made with recycled material, natural materials as I call "Deco Nature"

Este es un cuadro realizado con material reciclado, de la naturaleza, como yo lo llamo "Deco Nature"


First apply a base of color brown or the color you choose, add a little water and white glue to this color,then go paste material that you like and create a harmony between them.
Primero aplica una capa de base de color marrón o del color que elijas, agrega al color marrón o al color que hayas escogido un poquito de agua y de cola blanca, luego ve pegando materiales que te gusten y crea una armonía entre ellos.

I used: dried oranges, sticks, shells, I painted the gauze with coffee, dried flowers and all the imagination you can put ...
Para este cuadro yo utilicé: naranjas disecadas, palos, conchas, gasa pintada con café, tela de saco gruesa, flores secas y con toda la imaginación que puedas ponerle...

you can use what you want it... and of course maintaining harmony between the colors and decor you have in your home ...
y por supuesto manteniendo la armonía entre los colores y la decoración que tengas en tu casa...

Size of picture: 1.20 cms X 80 cms.

Tutorial: How to make a magazine storage/ Como hacer un revistero

I've been so inspired by other blogs, and reading magazines, that have ultimately given me ideas to keep on reusing objects and giving them a new use... that's how I got a new magazine holder!

Tanto me he inspirado siguiendo otros blogs y leyendo revistas que puedo decir que me han surgido nuevas ideas para seguir reutilizando objetos y cosas dandoles una nueva funcion....asi nacio mi nuevo revistero!

And this was the inspiration!
Y esta fue la inspiración!

Lately magazines have many tips on recycling, and I personally like the idea , even though what I do does not have that great of an impact in conservation (considering that not many people care much for the environment yet) I do my best to push along my little grain of sand :). If you wanna make one, here you go, step by step.

Actualmente las revistas traen muchas sugerencias de reciclaje y a mi en lo personal me encanta pues aunque tal vez lo que hago no cause gran impacto en la conservacion (considerando que todavia a muchos no les importa el cuidado ambiental) trato lo mas posible en contribuir con mi granito de arena :)... si quieres hacer uno aqui te va, paso a paso...


Materials: 1 yard of Osnaburg 1/4 yard of colorful fabric (of your choice) 1 cereal box ( the kind that have two bags)

Materiales:
1 yarda de osnaburg (me encanta esta tela pero no se como se llama en español. Tambien puedes elejir la que mas te agrade)
1/4 de tela de colores(la que mas te guste o en combinacion con el área donde vas a colocar tu revistero).
1 caja de cereal ( de las cajas que traen doble bolsa).

This project is really easy, if you don't have a sewing machine, you can do it by hand even thought it will take you a while longer, but it will look just as good in the end...

Este proyecto es muy fácil, si no tienes máquina de coser lo puedes realizar a mano aunque te vas a tardar un poquito mas pero quedara lindo de todas formas...

Measure and cut a rectangle 16" x 28" ( about 41cm x 70cm)

Mide y corta un rectangulo de 16" x 28" (son como 41cm x70cm aprox).

Flip it right side down, and sew on the long ends...

Voltealos (lado derecho hacia adentro) y cose una de las orillas grandes...

Choose a one of the sides that measures 16", joined to make a slit. fold it approximately half a centimeter and iron it so it's easier to sew...
Elije uno de los lados donde estan los dos 16" unidos para hacer el bies (creo que asi se llama :P ) dobla aproximadamente medio centímetro y planchalo para que te sea mas fácil al coser...

Sew over the fold.
Cose sobre el dobles.

What you're going to do next is cut strips of colored cloth 2" wide (4cm) and you'll form wrinkles that will be held in place by pins as shown in the picture above, just fold it little by little...

Lo que vas hacer ahora es cortar listones de la tela de colores de 2" de ancho(4cm) y vas a formar rufles con el sosteniendolos con alfileres como se muestra en la foto, solo dobla la tela pedazito a pedazito...

You can be doing this as you sew, it will be faster and easier. Make a strip of wrinkles about 25".
Tambien los puedes ir formando mientras los coses en la maquina sera mas facil y rapido, forma un liston de rufles de aprox. 25" (64cm)...

From the right side of the cloth, place your ruffles and hold them down with pins.

Del lado derecho de tu tela(donde hiciste el bies)coloca tus rufles y sujetalos con alfileres...

Sew once more over the same place where you sewed your ruffles ( so it looks like one) and join the ruffles to the fabric.

Cose nuevamente sobre la costura de tu rufle(asi parecera solo una) y une el liston de rufles a la tela...

Now flip it over (ruffles bellow) and hold all the ends with pins apart from the part where you sewed around, it will end up as a cover...

ahora voltea la tela(rufles hacia adentro) y sujeta todas las orillas con alfileres menos donde esta tu aplique y cose alrededor, te quedara como una funda...

Remove the pins and without flipping it right side out, place it inside your cereal box, fold the caps inwards so the box will be sturdier...

Retira los alfileres y sin voltearla coloca tu funda dentro de la caja de cereal, dobla las tapas hacia adentro asi te quedara mas fuerte la boca de la caja...

Slide it over until it's completely covered...

Ve deslisando tu funda sobre la caja asta cubrirla por completo...

Junk to treasury/ De basura a tesoro!

A couple of month ago i picked up an old chair, it was in the front yard of someone's house, ready to be taken by the trash people... but where they saw trash, i saw endless possibilities, so I brought it home.

Hace algunos meses atras para ser exactos a finales de Enero recogí una silla vieja que estaba en la acera, lista para que se la llevara el recolector de basura...pero le vi "posibilidades" asi que la traje a casa.

My son was shocked, because I found it in front of the school. Afterwards, he and my Hubby ganged up on me and started asking me what i'd do with that "Junk" at home, so this is what i did.

Mi hijo estaba impactado, pues la encontré cerca de su escuela. Despues, el junto con mi marido (Hubby) comenzaron a preguntarme que haria con esa basura ("Junk") en la casa y esto fue lo que hice.

I removed the cushion, sanded it down and applied "primer".

Le quite el asiento, la puli un poco y le aplique "primer".

I painted it a brilliant "Barn" red.

La pinte de un rojo "Barn" muy brillante.

I made this sign to place on the chair since i had already decided to put my "new" chair in the entrance.

Hice este letrero para colocarlo en el respaldo pues ya habia decidido poner mi "nueva" silla en la entrada de la casa.

I bought a hanging pot, i took the chains off leaving only links to hold it in place.

Compré una maceta colgante, le quite las cadenas dejando solo algunos eslabones para sostenerla.

If you're going to do this project, I recommend you to twist the nails used to hold the pot so it doesn't slide easily.

Si quieres hacer este proyecto te recomiendo que dobles los clavos que sostienen la canasta para que no se resbale facilmente y se caiga.

Following the instructions, I placed some dirt, and planted Petunia, pink and white,. I place the sign like so.

Siguiendo las instrucciones, coloque la tierra, deshice los grumos y plante unas "Petunias" rosadas y blancas y le puse el letrero en el respaldo.

This chair has been transformed into a pleasant treat for the eyes for any visitors WELCOME!

Y esta es la silla que se a tranformado en una gradable vista para recibir a las visitas.

Diamonds and Earth / Diamantes y La Tierra

We have all heard the phrase “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend”, right? Well, have you heard that they can also teach us something about how to be Earth’s best friend? Let me explain. The Diamond is the birthstone of the month of April. April is also the month we celebrate Earth Day. And how do most people celebrate Earth Day? Making others aware of what we can do for our Earth by taking action and cleaning our environment. And the first thing that we can do is RECYCLE! One simple act can make a huge difference in our environment. And what does this have to do with Diamonds? Did you know that some diamonds are composed of carbon, that is recycled organic matter, previously incorporated in marine organisms? And every copper wire in your computer, television, and house has been shaped with a device made with diamonds that squeezes wire to the desired diameter? .The Earth’s natural cycle involves recycling, renewing and creating. And we are called to do our part. Even the Pope’s message for the World Day of Peace was “To Cultivate Peace, Protect Creation”. So go be like a diamond to the Earth.

Todas hemos escuchado la frase que dice “Los Diamantes son los mejores amigos de la mujer”, ¿verdad? Bueno, ¿pues han también escuchado que los diamantes nos pueden ensenar algo de ser las mejores amigas de la tierra? Déjenme explicar. El Diamante es la piedra para el mes de Abril. En el mes de Abril también se celebra el “Día de la Tierra”. ¿Y cómo pasa la mayoría de gente celebrando este día? Earth Day!

Etsy Latino team is an active and new group composed of talented Latin-American artists spread around the world. Through the work of our hands we wish to show our culture to the entire world. We are conscious of the global warning problem and we are doing our best in different ways to protect our beautiful and adorable Pachamama ( Mother Earth in the Quechua language of the Andes ).

One day in our private conversation this question came up between us: What do you do with your leftover materials?

- First of all I classify them: The big pieces (the ones are more than 4” x4”) I use for my patchwork The small ones: Those which jump out of the machine, I use them to fill up pillows. I love pillows!! And my house is full of them!

Para empezar tendría que catalogar mis retazos:
Los de tamaño o mayor a 4” x4” son los “productivos” y los utilizo para hacer mis trabajo de “patchwork”
Los pequeñitos pequeñitos (como por ejemplo los que bota la máquina) los uso para rellenar cojines… A mi me fascina tener cojines!! Tanto que mi habitación y sala están llenos de estos.

Another idea is: Aura ( my daughter ) has a lot of great ideas of how to use remains: She wants to be a Fashion Designer, (in fact she likes to watch Project Runway with me ) so she uses my scratches for her costumes oops! I mean New Outfits for herself. Also she likes to design new clothes for her dollies. Other activities that we like to do with scraps are making collages, cards for friends or anything that can kill our wintertime.


Otro punto a aportar es que Aura tambien usa los retazos para sus creaciones. Ella como una de las cosas que quiere ser cuando grande es ser diseñadora de moda, asi que se pasa horas haciendose disfraces y ropita a sus muñecas; tambien los usamos para hacer collages, targetitas para los amigos o cualquier otra ocurrencia que tengamos para matar el tiempo...

I really do not I have a lot of waste, precisely because that is my mission to try to do my art with scraps, I try to incorporate found objects, objects that are to be discarded as I.V. medical caps from a Hospital and manage to do something with it like decoratives mirrors . Watch parts, computer parts, paper junk mail, etc.

Yo la verdad no tengo muchos desperdicios, porque precisamente esa es mi mision tratar de hacer mi arte con desperdicios, yo trato de incorporar objetos encontrados, objetos que van a ser desechados como las tapas de los sueros medicinales en hopitales con eso logre hacer algunos espejos decorativos. Piezas de relojes, partes de computadoras, papel del junk mail, etc.

Before I throw away my leftovers in the recycling bin I prefer to make something unique. I created a recycled "Pachamama" art doll from all my leftover material that I found inside my trash-can. It was a challenge to create something from scraps but also a good inspiration to blow away my imagination. You will amaze yourself with the result. My art doll " Pachamama " was selected to be published by a well-known crafts magazine, together with a few other artists to represent our Mother Earth.

Antes de botar mis sobras prefiero crear algo original. Hice una escultura de una muñeca recyclable que se llama " Pachamama " con las sobritas que encontre en mi basurero. Esta muñeca fue seleccionada entre otros artistas para ser publicada en una revista de arte muy importante para representar nuestra Madre Tierra.

Reusing your leftovers has unlimited frontiers . I'm making more little things for myself, family and for selling as well. This is my small contribution to protect our lovely Pachamama for the next generation.

Las cosas que se pueden crear con nuestras sobras nos pueden asombrar. Constantemente estoy reusando mis materiales de desperdicio en hacer pequeñas cosas para mi, mi casa , mi familia y por supuesto para vender tambien.

So before throwing away your leftover materials think about what can you do with them first.
