Many of us celebrate this day and dress up in green with good luck charms, but do we really know why?

Being so close to Ireland (I live in Scotland) I was curious to know a bit more. Saint Patrick was the patron saint and national apostle of Ireland who is credited with bringing christianity to Ireland. It is said that Saint Patrick died at Saul, Downpatrick, Ireland, on March 17, 460 A.D.

Saint Patrick’s day is celebrated on March 17 to commemorate his death.

Today this holiday has come to be associated with everything Irish: anything green and gold, shamrocks and luck. But the most important thing about this holiday it’s religious meaning.

Irish people are very routed to their history, it is believed that as the Irish spread out around the world and took with them their history and celebrations.

In many American cities with a large Irish population, St. Patrick's Day is a very big deal. Big cities and small towns alike celebrate with parades, music and songs, Irish food and drink and of course wearing of the green and good luck charms.
